Industrial Hemp: An Introduction

Hemp is a cannabis plant that is grown and cultivated for industrial, or non-drug, use.It is currently grown in over 25 countries all over the world, and China is the leader grower and exporter. In fact, China has been the leading source for hemp seeds and products for American buyers and consumers. This is expected to change since the 2018 Farm Bill that legalizes industrial hemp in the United States has become law. In the class, Industrial Hemp: An Introduction, we are going to cover a lot of ground regarding hemp. We will examine the history of hemp in the United States, review in detail most of the ways hemp is being used in society and potential applications of hemp (including a review of the retail marketplace), and then cover at a basic level where hemp grows best, and what it takes to grow hemp (agriculturally speaking).

Cooking With Cannabis

Infusing food with cannabis and creating cannabis edibles has become a trendy new business across the US. The market for cannabis-based confections, cheesecakes, salad dressings, beverages, and more is on the rise. In this class, work with professional cooks who have experience in preparing their own lines and recipes for cannabis foods and dishes. This class will be done partially online and in a classroom, but mainly in a kitchen. In the kitchen, students will need to have some cooking experience. In the classroom setting, students will learn about the plant, extracts and the steps that go into using cannabis in a food product.

Ben Droz - One On One Consulting - Catoctin College

One On One With Ben Droz (Hemp Lobbyist)

Ben Droz is the American hemp industry’s main lobbyist. As a registered lobbyist for Vote Hemp, an advocacy group that works to promote positive hemp laws, Droz has worked for several years in Washington, DC, as well as the state and local level on a wide variety of hemp legislation. Over his lobbying career, Droz has conducted hundreds of presentations and interviews with congressional staffers and other representatives of Federal agencies, most of them in Capitol Hill offices for the purpose of briefing staffers on the importance of industrial hemp. This is a specially scheduled one-on-one session with Ben Droz to discuss cannabis and hemp legislative and business issues. This course gets a series of phone discussions to ask Ben for his expertise, as well as some light research (if necessary) to answer some of your specific questions.
