Lessons

  1. In this lesson, we are going to talk about what kind of job you want, and what kind of job you may likely get. We will discuss what your long-term professional goals are, and what you short-term and long-term career plan may look like. This lesson will include discussion with everyone participating in this course, as well as provide some general resources.
  2. Job searching can be one of the most stressful activities we undertake in our lives. In many cases, the stress is compounded when we don't know how to search in an effective way, or where to search for a job. This lesson will provide resources to students, as well as help set-up a job search action plan.
  3. Though not a comprehensive resume writing and cover letter writing workshop, we are going to review examples of successful resume formats (based on industries) and poor resumes, as well as good and bad cover letters. We also will take some time during class and off-hours to review the resumes and cover letters of students who are signed-up for this course (classroom and online).
  4. In this final lesson to the course "Job Searching, Resume and Cover Letter Writing, and Employment Interviews," we will discuss how to handle an employment interview - both phone / Skype screen, as well as a longer, face-to-face discussion. This lesson will provide students with some strategies for how to be successful as shared by companies and recruiters. We also will have some discussion about the job interview process with students.
